Why is there no client's name search?

"The Groomer's Write Hand" provides a simpler and faster way of finding client names.

Instead of:

Clicking on 'File', clicking on 'Search', typing in the persons name (which would have to be spelled exactly right), then clicking on the 'Start Search' button to search your data files..

Just do this:

Scroll down the alphabetical list of client names on the main screen.

Tip: You can also quickly find a clients name by clicking anywhere in the client names list (to give it the focus) then press the first letter of the persons last name. For example if the persons name is Jane Smith. Press the 'S' key on your keyboard. This will quickly take you to the first person who's last name starts with an 'S'. You can keep pressing 'S' until Jane Smith is highlighted or just click on Jane Smith.

Why did I loose the Pet Profile info for one of my clients?

The 'Pet Profile' uses a separate data file. When you enter pet profile information for a pet, that profile is stored in a folder marked with the client's name and pet's name. When you want to see a profile for a pet, the program looks for a folder with the client's and pet's name marked on it.  If you make any changes to the clients name or pets name, the program will not find the old pet profile folder because the program is looking for it under the new name. If you have to change a name, you will have to re-enter the pet profile information in the new pet profile folder.

How do I backup my files?

All "The Groomer's Write Hand" CDs shipped with a date of February 2002 or later have the GWH Data Backup program on the CD. If you do not have the GWH Data Backup program you may download it here.

Note: The Groomer's Write Hand version 3.5 and above has the backup function built in. Only install the separate backup program if you are using a version below 3.5.

The  GWH Data Backup program was made specially for The Groomer's Write Hand to backup and restore your data files in the way that is needed. We do not encourage or support backing up your data files with any other backup program.

For more info on backups see 'The Groomer's Write Hand' help. Search for 'Data Backup'.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to do frequent backups. Use the backup reminder function and plan your own strategy or use my suggestion below.

I suggest you backup at least once a week (daily backups recommended for busy shops) and keep at least 3 backup sets. For example: For week 1 use backup set "A", for week 2 use backup set "B", for week 3 use backup set "C", for week 4 re-use backup set "A", for week 5 re-use backup set "B", and so on.

I strongly suggest that you use a surge protector w/battery backup such as the APC Back-UPS. This will help keep your client data safe from power surges and drops. A regular surge protector will not protect your computer and files from a power drop and can result in destroyed data files. This is especially true for data base programs that will get a lot of on-time, like "The Groomer's Write Hand".

What is the difference between the demo version and the registered version?

The demo version has a limit on the number of clients you can add. Other than that, there is no difference.

When I buy the registered version, will I have to re-enter all of my Client information?

No. The registered version uses the same data files as the demo. You will not loose any cards.

The program has stopped printing or prints out screwed up, what gives?

You may have accidentally changed the 'Font' of the print out. All printers do not work with all fonts.

In most cases (where the program was printing out fine one day and not the next day), the font type was accidentally changed. Try the "MS SANS SERIF" or "COURIER" fonts.

Where do I enter appointments?

Appointments are entered under the 'Next Visit' column on the 'Pet Names & Dates' screen.

To get to this screen from the main 'Index Card' screen open the 'View' menu and click on 'Pet Information'.

Is my version compatible with Windows Vista?

The current version of The Groomer's Write Hand is Vista compatible.

If your version of The Groomer's Write Hand is 3.3 or lower the answer is no. Any version below 3.4 can not be supported on Vista. I strongly suggest that you do not install an older version. What version do I have?
